You assume much for someone who knows nothing of me. I don't know you either, however, I do know the public schools and I know the private sector. One is mostly run by liberal thinking teachers and is controlled by the unions, hardly conservatives. This has been going on since the 60's, when the left took over our universities. We can no longer compete mentally, with other countries of lesser stature and we are losing our competitive edge in our technological/scientific fields and in manufacturing. They are beating us at our own game. There has to be an answer for that. My guess is that we have been teaching political correctness and self esteem because the schools are more worried about feelings, gay lifestyles, inclusiveness and being diverse. Self esteem comes from getting a "proper" education and being able to apply what we learn in the real world where the competition is real, not ignored for the sake of the school unions and the politicians. If the left, (Democrats), were concerned about our acedemic achievments amongst the young, they would allow school choice for everyone, not just themselves. Schools NEED competition too. The "poor" will remain poor as long as the Democrats are in control. It sure gets votes, but at the cost of increases in crime and joblesness. The high school drop out rate in most minority areas of the country is about 50%. We spend almost as much on our prisons than our schools. Just look around! What do you see? Democrats don't want to see their own failures. Our two oldest daughters are teachers and have taught in the public schools for years. They now teach in the private schools. All of our 8 children graduated from private schools, grade and high and also private colleges and are very successful. One of the most important things about the private schools is the discipline and parental involvement, something that is lacking in the government schools. The Obama presidency will assure us of more of the same incompetence we now have. So I really don't care what you think of me or conservatives. I care about my children and grandkids and all of our youth. They are our future! Don't tell me I know nothing about what education brings. I'm well travelled and educated and I don't like what I see in our public schools. We need excellence, not mediocrity. Our youth deserves better, as does our country, especially for what we are paying in taxes.
