Are we to be fools?
May 23rd, 2010 by Randy Toman
Pennsylvania’s Tuesday (5/18/2010) primary election is fast fading into the past, as time heals the disappointments of the day. There is much speculation as to what could have been done or what should have been done in the Sam Rohrer campaign. But let us not be too hard on ourselves, for we have not the control of who is to be elected nor who will rise above, for it is God who raises them up.
Solomon tells us, it is by the Lord doings. Proverbs 8:15;
“By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.”
John Calvin’s “Institutes of the Christian Religion” edited by John T. McNeill book 4, chapter 20:4; Calvin says of Proverbs 8:15.
“This amount’s to the same thing as to say: it has not come about by human perversity that the authority over all things on earth is in the hands of kings and other rulers, but by divine providence and holy ordinance.”
So for whatever reason God in His infinite wisdom choose Tom Corbett to represent the Republican Party on the ballot in November 2010. These charges as they come to pass become of a most serious nature and reflect what Jehoshsphat, in ancient time, tells his judges.
2 Chronicles 19:6
“And said to the judges, take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.”
John Calvin commenting on this verse says this;
“And this admonition deserves to have great weight with them, for if they commit some fault, they are not only wrong-doers of man whom they wickedly trouble, but are also insulting toward God himself.”
Man is under a two fold charge from God; that being the church were he is to be taught God’s law and seek eternity for his soul. The second is what is required of man within the social circles and Civil Government. In Book 4 Chapter 20:2 Calvin outlines what God has ordained the civil government appointed ends to be.
1. To cherish and protect the outward worship of God.
2. To defend sound doctrine of piety and the position of the church.
3. To adjust our life to the life of men.
4. To form our social behavior to civil righteousness.
5. To reconcile us with one another.
6. To promote general peace and tranquility.
Calvin states: “Those who take these from man deprive him of his humanity.”
The Civil Government has 3 parts:
1. The Magistrate: who is the protector and guardian of the laws.
2. The Laws: According to which he governs.
3. The People: Who are governed by the laws and obey the magistrate.
“The fall from kingdom to tyranny is easy; but it is not much more difficult to fall from the rule of the best men to the faction of a few; yet it is easiest of all to fall from popular rule to sedition.” Book 4 Chapter 20:8
“For no one has discussed the office of magistrates, the making of laws, and public welfare, without beginning at religion and divine worship. And thus all have confessed that no government can be happily established unless piety is the first concern; and that those laws are preposterous which neglect God’s right and provide only for men.” Book 4 Chapter 20:9
What has happen here in America, we have driven out God and have done exactly what we should not do “provide only for men.” Are we going from the rule of best man to the faction of a few? Is tyranny coming in like a flood?
There is a separation of Church and State but not how the Progressive have presented it and we are powerless to stop the jettison of God and his law from our country. Why would or should God protect this once great land if we don’t even want him here and unless or until we start getting serious about;
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
We Shall See—–Are we to be fools and lose the country or shall we seek knowledge and fear God?
