Conclusion First, Then Action
Nov 24th, 2009 by Randy Toman
We have a serious problem in the make-up of our culture if the God of the Sabbath is not the God to be feared and reckoned with on the other six days of the week. If in those six days we care for nothing within the Holy Book, and nothing of Scripture that will guide us, then there is no need to call on the Lord at any time or for anything. If this is true today it certainly was not true of our founding fathers for the walked according to Gods word.
The Puritans of 1620’s in New England viewed the Scriptures as much more then simply an application for man and as a vehicle for his salvation. They did not view the Bible as a rulebook for the Spiritual world only, but had found in the Bible and it’s teachings the very rules to life itself. One of the elements and teachings of the Bible that guided the Puritans in his social inter actions was his understanding of the Biblical Doctrine of the fall and Total Depravity of Man. This deep Theological element with its simple truth guided the early settlers in writing their social compacts from the Mayflower Compact to the Declaration of Independence, to the Constitution. It can be seen in the attempt to control the politician and the government, the founding fathers knew of sinful man, the sovereignty of God, man’s duty to God and it was by God’s mercy and grace they would survive, they knew this well and understood it fully.
Understanding today’s problems is impossible if one does not understand the doctrine of “Total Depravity” and how the Puritans thought. Their thinking and way of life lies in stark contrast to today’s progressive, politically, secular thinking. The very fact that we cannot reach any conclusions in our argumentation tells me there is no understanding of the doctrine of “Total Depravity”.
The Puritans (1620) and early founding father’s (1776) in no way could separate their Sabbath Day thinking from their 6 days of work and the way they argued and/or formulated political, social and economic policies.
I don’t know about you but I’m tired of all the arguing, especially seeing it has deteriorated to the point were it should only take “Common Sense” to figure out what is wrong. Don’t you think if it is that simple we would have at least some of the issues being resolved? NO folks it is not going to happen until the doctrine of “Total Depravity” is proclaimed and we cut to the quick of calling EVIL, EVIL and we can then look to motives of evil people doing evil things.
WE SHALL SEE—-and shortly because correction requires conclusions and folks don’t want to do that. Remember we have right conclusions first and then actions and/or reactions, and in our case and this situation much pain before, during and after but we must draw some conclusions. Will GOD have mercy on us? Pray HE does.
