Do we need Leaders and were is the Action?
Jul 13th, 2008 by Randy Toman
It was my second time attending the annual Republican picnic of Lehigh County, Pa. (7/12/08) and I must say I enjoyed myself this year. Politic-ing was hot and heavy with all the players circling their wagons and you could just tell it was conversation of the most argent nature.
To be honest I was somewhat surprised at what I was told and learned during the afternoon, all top secret stuff. To start off with I was privileged early afternoon to have the company of some of the county movers and shakers coming up and sitting down were I had been sitting. The conversation varied from how the county commissioner were not allow to meet and discuss political strategy (the sunshine laws) to McCain’s visit to the Lehigh Valley and me bringing up his lack of ability to capitalize on O’bama’s flip flopping on the varies issues. I also threw in the fact that I thought his campaign lacked leadership and direction at the top. I was quickly told they thought McCain was on his 3rd campaign manager, (Not Good) this told me from the people sitting with me. My statement of lacking leadership got their agreeing head nod. I also said that I couldn’t understand why the State and National Republican Committee wasn’t stepping up to the plate and giving McCain the guidance and helping in forcing a more aggressive stance, taking advantage of O’bama failing, which was almost happening on a daily bases. Everyone seemed to be as mystified about that as I was and I really didn’t get any feed back as to why any of them thought it was happening. And if you know anything at all about positioning that is typical of politicians. My last attempt in trying to get any insight into the why of the thing was my questioning of why is there no leadership and don’t they (the party leadership) understand they are jeopardizing the party itself. If the Republicans loose in November, not only will the country swing wildly into socialism but also the party may loose the Party. Again the controlled nod of agreement.
That little circle didn’t last long and broke up quickly. Maybe they understood my questioning was really a subtle way of implying that leadership or lack of it had filtered down to us and that the issues demanded action on somebody’s part locally. And the one person that was left setting with me confirmed that assessment as being accurate.
I was off to my next encounter, this time I was moving up in rank and would have a most pleasant conversation with a state level dignitary. There I was some what taken back when I was told that it was policy and they were instructed from the boys in the smoke filled room that you will never get involved with the likes of me and under no circumstances (never) answer anything coming from my or any other any “Blog”. Well in order to recover and save some of my face I told the person I really wasn’t a bad guy and that the person should tell those guys in the smoke filled room that the citizens and me are fed-up with the nonsense and the lack of guiding the country in an honorable fashion and that if the person I was talking to wanted to respond to me and what I had to say they certainly should take that liberty. I said they(the person I was talking to at the picnic) should sit down at their personal computer with their own personal e-mail (no tax payers money) and write me anything and not to worry about what the big boys in the smoke filled rooms say. That revelation explained everything including the mess we are in. Well all is well that ends well and we parted with me saying we need leadership and somebody had better start thinking about that and step up to the plate. Again yet another of my feeble attempt to get the message out, we need leaders. This time rather then a nodding of the head in agreement I could see in the eye maybe a small flicker of possible understanding. That boasted me and gave me some hope that just maybe politicians do have a heart that is not attached to their finger that checks wind direction.
Well the rest of the afternoon pasted quickly with me handing out my card pushing the blog. And I’m not sure why I was doing that accept for the fact that I truly wanted to get the word out with regards to this void in leadership. These are serious times and I’m not so sure all the folks at the picnic would agree with me.
Just a couple of side notes for you. Tony Phillips was introduced to us there at the picnic. He changed his voters’ registration from Democratic to Republican. There are at least two things extremely important about that courageous move.
1/ He is on the Allentown, Pa. City Council, that is/was 100% Democratic, now the Republican have one voice crying in the wildness maybe, talking about taking the heat.
2/ He is African/American and proves to the Republican Party there is a place for the Negro within the party and they deserve respect.
I extend my hand to Tony in fellowship. And pray God will be his Co-Pilot he will need Him, and just maybe he plays Baseball and will step up to the plate. We need Leaders.
And for those of you who have followed the East Penn School District tax increase issue I had a chance to talk with one of the young school broad members heavily involved in the fight. Now there you have somebody who has stepped up to the plate and is willing to go to bat for Mr. Joe Citizen in the true sense of government representation. If there is anyway you can get involved in helping the cause please do contact him. I have his E-Mail address and if your interested in stepping up to the plate and taking a turn at bat I’ll give you his E-Mail address. But if you are interested in only harassing him don’t bother him or me.
Last, I may have breakfast sometime in the future with yet another person that should be at bat and stepping up to the plate and isn’t. I think he is not sure of how the game is to be played and wants the to see some action and I can’t blame him for that. For you see that is my problem, the game isn’t being played for lack of leadership and there certainly isn’t any action.

Randy—as far as the smoke-filled room junkies, there has to be someone over them–I wonder who that is?
The way I see the problem is this; too many people are silent regarding current problems within the party. It seems as though the Republicans have bailed out and taken the stance familiar in today’s society–that being–”let someone else do it”. So many people I talk to have a lot of opinions about politics, but don’t really know what is going on. The group that bothers me the most, is not those from the 40’s on up, but the ones younger than them.
Our sons, in their mid 40’s, have a different perspective than the 30-year-olds. I see and hear it all the time. Our oldest (now 46) is saying, “the way things are going, people are going to have to go back to doing things the way we used to. We had our own gardens; entertainment was to take the kiddies to feed the ducks or a drive-in movie; never ate out, instead ate home-made bread, baked goods and jams and jellies. In other words, we lived a simpler life without all the self indulgences that permeate today’s society–even the conservative sector.
I said that to bring out this aspect, there aren’t enough people in the “I remember when” age groups to have the moxie to stand up against the socialism being pushed in this country. The younger masses don’t remember hard times; or seeing pictures in the paper of the effects of wars; they had not been programmed through the public school system and God was still a part of the influences in their lives. The left-wing media has kept a great deal from society–they ought to be prosecuted for that.
As we get older, the politicians in higher places get younger, and we no longer have a repoire with them—nothing in common. That is why it is so hard to get our message across to them. They have been so brainwashed they cannot see left from right.
The way I see it, the problems in the government start with the higher-ups and the solution to that problem starts with the peons—-us. Where are the masses protesting? Why isn’t Joe citizen out in the streets screaming about the way we are being rail-roaded?
The only other answer could be that this is all part of prophecy–and there is nothing anyone can do about it. My feeling is that if Barrack Osama Obama gets in the Whitehouse–there will be a literal hell to pay. The whole plan has been to “convert” the children until their numbers over-run the “right” minded ones. After that, it’s all over but the “wish I had done more” thoughts.
Persecution of Christians from Muslims has started here in the U.S. In CA there is a Muslim who has become a high school principal and he has already fired a Christian teacher on the grounds that he was “prosletizing students—this actually was a lie—and so it is to go. In other schools, during regular school time, Muslims are allowed to have the classroom door locked while a Muslim leader goes in and conducts prayer time with their Muslim students. Excuse me? Why havn’t we seen that on the news? Can our ministers go in and have prayer time with Christian students?
The lack of back bone in the party is the direct result of years of lack of concern by the people themselves. The fall of a great society is always from within themselves.
Randy & Loretta,
Our political ‘leaders’ are failing us. That is why Congress has a 9% approval rating. Harrisburg is viewed as a cesspool of corruption and back room dealing. A recent poll shows that over 70% of the people think politicians are not only serving special interests, but that they are their own special interest.
In such time there is only one answer. Citizens must provide the leadership. We must form working groups to expose government problems and advocate for common sense solutions. And any effort is worthy - like the East Penn working group we are forming. Things will be VASTLY different in that school district.
So, get involved. Form a citizens working group in your areas. I would love to help if you desire it. How to start? Get 10-15 people together who have concerns about a local, state of federal issue. That, actually, is the hardest step…..

@Randy:
I just want to bring up your mention of Tony Phillips. First, I shuddered when I saw you use the term “negro”. Now I haven’t met Tony, so I’m not sure of his feelings on the issue, but these days “black” or “african-american” are the terms usually used for people of noticeable african descent. I’m pretty sure “negro” is currently considered a racial slur.
Also, I’m hoping you can write an entry expanding on your insinuation that the Republican party is wary, or even exclusionary, of non-whites. I’ve gotten that impression as well, but I’m hoping you can talk about it more, because it seems like a fairly serious problem for the party to have.
@Loretta:
First, I think it’s sad to see you call him “Barrack ‘Osama’ Obama”. If you’re trying to say that he’s somehow a ‘closet Muslim’, then I’m pretty sure that that particular theory has been factually squashed. If you’re holding his name against him, then I’m shocked that anyone outside of Elementary School would do such a thing. Of course if you were just joking, then I’ll just write it off to being in very poor taste.
As for your allegations that Muslims are actively persecuting Christians in education and forcing Islamic prayer on students: if they’re true, then something should definitely be done about it. But try to understand that a Muslim might not see much difference between a Christian pushing his religion on his students and a Christian pushing creationism/intelligent design on his students, both of which are grounds for dismissal from a public school. They also might consider it fair trade to force Islam onto students who are also forced to praise the Christian God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Of course all the actions taken by the Muslims in your stories are unacceptable so long as these are public schools you are referring to, which I assume is the case.
Arthur, It should be important to note that Obama had a father who was a Muslim born in Kenya and abandoned his white wife and his son Obama after only 2 years of marriage. Obama kept his Muslim name but became Christian and attended a mostly black church pastored by the radical Reverend Wright for nearly 20 years! Obama did say some things about his mother and white Grandmother post-mortem, that was not exactly flattering. I would personally question his judgement on issues of morality, religion and love for people of different faiths. He also has no love for the unborn, the most vulnerable of the entire human race. No right to be born means no rights at all. I don’t hate him, he is what he is. I personally, would not vote for him because of what he is!
