Entitlement Mentality

I believe that one of the biggest challenges of our times is to get all individuals to be more responsible for themselves. The current “ME” generation seems to think the government is there to bail out everyone that fails or has a serious problem, including institutions. The government can’t do this without making things worse. The public school system, the Social Security Administration, the Medicare system are all failing and government knows it. The government is also deeply involved in the financial institutions, banks, stock markets and other places they don’t belong. The IRS is nothing more than a re-distribution center to take money away from those that have it and give it to people that don’t. I don’t see how this has improved any one’s lives. The numbers of poor are getting larger and larger and there is no end in sight. These “victim” groups are increasing in size and in their demands. When the government tries to comply with the wishes of these victim groups, they get more votes come election time, but the rest of us suffer the consequences. It’s easy to spend someone elses money. The result is larger poor neighborhoods, more crime resulting in more prisons, more government debt and a society that becomes more divided. Entitlements are NOT the answer, a better education is. That is what we should all be fighting for. That means to put the right people in office to support freedom of school choice for the parents of our youth. The present public schools will not teach right from wrong, for fear that the ACLU might sue them for teaching religion and pushing their moral values on the students.
The entitlement mentality does not work and we all should understand that by now. We have had too many years of failure to see it any different. The following article explains the consequences of entitlements given to the “poor”.
