Interposition; What is it?
Jun 4th, 2010 by Randy Toman
We have at this moment the Governor of Arizona in Washington discussing with President Obama what is to happen with their state law regarding the protection of their border. If there ever was a clear cut case of the “Christian Doctrine of Interposition” this is it.
In the movie “Brave Heart” Mel Gibson playing William Wallace says this;
“You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position; I think your position exists to provide these people with freedom.”
In Nathan Lehman’s essay “The Doctrine of Interposition” these opening paragraphs appear;
“The doctrine of interposition, rooted in the Bible and Christian concepts of government, is the foundation of legitimate resistance to government tyranny. The doctrine has been developed and refined by Christian thinkers over the last five hundred years. Interposition was used in obtaining the Magna Charta and justifying the American Revolution. Often, interposition was used to bring a potential tyrant under control without the use of force.”
“The God revealed in the Bible is a God of order and authority. In practice, the doctrine of interposition recognizes legitimate authority and resists the chaos of anarchy. When a government abuses the rights or liberties of the people who instituted it, a remedy is provided by the interposition of lessor magistrates. This interposition is not only legitimate, it is responsibility given by God.”
Author Gary Amos describes interposition as; “resistance to tyranny through lower Magistrates.”
We are ignorant of any of this and have evolved into a social group of people who would rather be “Political Correct” in mis-speak then stand tall for truth. We have leaders in Harrisburg and Washington that have no clue as to what interposition and the doctrine might mean.
Less you think this is some fake made up doctrine by some hair brained individuals of the past calling themselves “Christians” think again. This doctrine is Biblical.
Jesus Christ, the son of God, interposed himself between the judgment of God the father and sinful humanity.
Elijah confronted Ahab for Jezebel’s murder of Naboth.
Nathan confronted David for his murder of Bathsheba’s husband.
Esther took on Haman and defended her race.
I might add much better then any of the Jewish leadership seem to be doing here in this country today.
We Shall See and shortly if we can find leaders to interposition themselves against the tyranny that is surrounding us and make no mistake about it “We do not surround them”—– not any more.

Nice post, Randy! Nullification is the best tool the states have to fight back. I delivered a presentation on this several weeks ago, the slides are here, see
