Leasing Highways a Dead Issue?
Jun 22nd, 2008 by The Outsider
Rendell’s wish to lease some highways to a Spanish firm, seems to be dead for now. The governor wanted to lease the highways in an effort to fund the maintenance of said roads, in lieu of keeping the roads and using tolls to fund the maintenance, as is done currently, for the turnpike. In 2007, Act 44 was a review to see if Highway 80 could be tolled in the same manner. That act passed! This probably means that Interstate 80 will become a tollroad in the near future, although Rendell still has the option of seeking other bids from leasors. The highways are already paid for by the Pa. taxpayers and I wonder what else the governor would like to lease. This tells me that the financial condition of the State of Pa. is in the red. It also tells me that Rendell knows that the people can’t be taxed any higher without a rebellion taking place and businesses moving out. The key to stopping the financial bleeding is to stop the entitlements and get every capable person working and paying taxes. That means making people responsible for themselves. That’s a big, big problem, created by the unintended consequence of making people dependent on the government. Maybe it wasn’t really unintended, since the same old 50 year solutions to the problem seem to be even more of the same. The liberal politicians have created a parasitic monster with a desire to feed off the wages of the working class. Why, you ask? It gets votes! The larger question is: why would the working class allow this? Something has to be wrong in the minds of those that allow this to continue. Please don’t tell me it’s “compassion” for the poor!
