Lost to Toleration
Nov 17th, 2007 by Randy Toman
I have written, we have lost our liberty of free conscience and it was through a suppressive political correctness that stifled this free speech and thought. Allow me to re-enforce that position.
We have two words that are closely tied to the concept of “Liberty of Conscience” and they should be understood. These two words allow you too gain insight into what liberty of conscience truly means for the free man. The two words are “”Tolerance” and “Toleration”. They sound like they should almost by definition mean the same thing, but that is not so.
The word “Tolerance” has a positive connotation with objectivity, fairness of thought, and lacks bigotry. The word “ Toleration” has by implication a granting of a right that some person or body politic processes. It is negative in scope. This narrowing of definition has serious ramification on “Liberty of Conscience”. If by adoption of the word “Toleration” the government thinks they have the right to dictate conscience, religious beliefs and worship of God, along with controlling free thought. We have a serious problem.
The subtly of deception the government has used is barely detectable now or in the past. The fact that government has stolen the right to dictate “toleration” in so many area’s of life makes the government policy and in some cases laws the norm and mode for how citizens should consider their thoughts and actions. This toleration and its’ uses as a political weapon has now gone from general use by government to being captured by groups such as the Democrats, ACLU, Gay Rights, and the Jesse Jacksons’ of the world. You now must fall in lock step with their agenda or you are branded with the label of not being tolerant. They use this so called lack of toleration on your part to get you to yield to their demands. It is not even a consideration if that position might be wrong.
All liberty and tolerance falls with in “Gods’ Law”. I would urge you to think on these truths because the idea and concept of tolerance is in jeopardy of being lost to toleration dictated by others.
