Not a revelation, just a thought
Nov 22nd, 2008 by Randy Toman
Something occurred to me at the League of Women Voters, Saturday morning November 22, 2008 seminar “Running for Local Office”. The seminar was 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM and all in all was well worth the time and money. I’m talking about the Lehigh and Northampton County League of Women Voters here in Pennsylvania.
Allow me to tell you what the different topics covered first, than tell you what occurred to me.
1. “Prepare yourself to be a candidate.”
A local elected official discussed his preparation both mentality and physically in making the decision to run.
2. “Working with the Press.”
This was a brief overview by one of the local newspapers state editors, and what to expect from the paper. His presentation gave me insight into why we are getting the type of coverage we have. He said the newspapers position when it comes to the candidate and their running for office is one of “adversary but not enemy”. My immediate thought was it is not but a small step going either way, enemy or friend nor would it be hard to jump back and forth if one needed to or wanted to. Their position to me is one that I’m not comfortable with and I think I would rather have been told we would print what you say and stop there. Or maybe add we will print truth. But anyway an excellent presentation and I now know were I stand because I think that applies to citizens as well, “adversary but not enemy”. Added after the post 11/23/08 7:52 AM;

3. “Working with Your Political Party.”
Here we had both party’s give their positions and standings as to working with candidates. It was pretty much boilerplate and for all the young and new to the game of politics it was some good insight into the process.
4. “The Paper work”
Now this part of the seminar I thought was well done with a representative from both county’s doing an excellent job with the presentation. “Within our binder notebooks we had all the forms anyone would need to run for office. The representative went through each of the forms with a quick overview that was needed to compile with the particular form. Probably the most impressive part was the cooperation offered by both county representatives to the room full of potential new candidates. Excellent and encouraging I’m sure to the folks in the room.
5. “Running a Successful Campaign” A panel discussion
Here again an excellent presentation using 4 different elected officials covering a number of topics and with a question and answer.
Now I wrote all this to make my point as to what occurred to me while listening to the different presentations. First let me repeat myself one more time; all in all an excellent seminar put on by the “Women’s League of Voters”.
Here it is, what occurred to me. The mechanics of running a campaign will not correct the problems we have here in the United States. It is not a revelation I know. A well-run campaign will get a “Socialist” as well as a “Patriot and/or Statesman” elected into office and this occurrence only convinces me that the Republicans can do one of two things. Add principles to their well run mechanics of an election machine, or they can just have a smoother well running machine that goes a little faster then the Democrat’s machine and gets there quicker with what they think is a less corrupt politician.
Now I concede you must have a well running machine to compete but who cares it you windup driving both Democrats and Republicans machines off the cliff and we have this country destroyed. If some how we cannot question and/or get some standards back into the process we will continue to have problems with well-run machines/campaigns.
Not exactly a revelation but certainly something to think about.

So you think readers are going to believe you’ve turned over a new leaf after spending weeks going on about the godless socialists and Marxists who are destroying the country?
Did you check to see how many New Atheists and Marxists were at the League of Women Voters? Or do you think they would have objected to it?
Good points, Randy. I thought you hit it on the head with the fact that we need more than a well oiled machine. Chicago and Obama has a well organised team but they can reek havoc on the whole country. His machine was so smooth that it convinced most of the electorate to vote for him, with a little help from his ACORN friends, Hollywood and people like Soros. The MSM is corrupt and we can’t expect any positive or fair reporting from them, only more corruption. These people in the leftist media need to be held accountable for undermining our constitutional process for elections. We can not remain a free country with a corrupt media.
We rely on our military to keep us free from enemies beyond our shores and we should be able to rely on our press to keep a vigilant eye on both political parties to keep us free within our borders. I didn’t see that watchful eye on Obama from the MSM. They cared more about Governor Palin’s clothes than anything about Obama, even whether or not he is a US citizen! Unbelievable!
Al,
I did not turn over anything. So I’m not sure what to say to you. My point I tryed to make was a well-run machine does not give you any principles to guide you. So somebody had better start thinking about injecting Principles into government because that seminar didn’t. What it did do, was show you how to build a well-run political machine and for that the League of Women Voters get an “A”.
I said both party’s are driving us (the country)and themselves over a cliff, both in “well-run machines”.
Randy
You gotta get off that rubbish that Obama might not be a citizen. It makes readers think you’re crazy.
Al,
One can conclude most anything accusative and/or voicing the opposite view to be rubbish and that will immediately put that side in a defensive position; not only defending it’s possible truth but ones sanity. Don’t you think there might be a better approach in handling the issue by O’bama. Just suppose it turns out to be true and O’bama wants to cover it up. What would you say to those folks trying to expose this injustice?
O’bama has the resources and the know how to prove he is an American born citizen. Why doesn’t he do that and end the division and speculation thereby taking the position of a true leader/Statesman, ending the divide between the sane and the insane. We could all have our sanity back and not be called “crazy”.
Randy
Ps. We could then move on to the next insane injustice, having resolved this one.
Al, not once did Obama answer the question about being an American citizen. I must confess, the MSM didn’t ask him. Why is that? Do you really care? Would you care if he were a Republican?
Why are conservatives crazy for being concerned? If you cared, you would be crazy too, according to your way of thinking.
