Ann,
"and we have failed to embrace tolerance of other ideas"

Ah yes, tolerance! Tolerance to the left is when everyone agrees with them. The Christians and conservatives are the ones that have been tolerant, not the left. We have been tolerant and taking abuse for way too long. That was our mistake! The ACLU has been anything but tolerant toward Christians and freedom loving Americans. Special treatment, tolerance, affirmative action have been given to all groups but conservatives and especially Christians. We don't discriminate against other religions but other religions and the Atheist religion has discriminated against us. I do notice that many Jews hate Christians in our society and yet I am a Christian and I don't hate Jews. What gives? Is it my Christianity you hate or my conservative principles?
I used to be a Democrat and voted for Carter...a big mistake. When I noticed how anti Jew and anti Israel he was, I switched to the Republican party. A president should be for all the people, not just the types he associates with. How about that fine Bill Ayers---huh? Then there is the not so reverend....reverend Wright? This is what Obama stands for and is and he has surrounded himself with far left wing radicals and appointed them Czars, unanswerable to anyone but him. Is that the progress you are talking about?
One more thing. I speak out of experience, not from being brainwashed by my professors and the leftists in the media. What is your experience?

"to see clearly what the reality is in America."
Hitler's Germany and gassing millions of Jews was reality also!

"Blood in the streets? Because the president is black or recognizes that he must serve a diverse population?"

Why do liberals like you always bring up race? When was the last time you walked through an all black community? Nice, huh?

"Socialism is not the enemy"

Now I know where you are coming from! Socialism is not freedom! Many would give up freedom to get entitlements under the elusion that government care is security for them. I've been to former Communist countries and what they had to live through is not what the majority of Americans want.
As I said to Erik, it's not to late to wake up, Ann. Conservatives and Christians are not your enemy, our government is, under Obama and his Communist and Socialist Czars.

"The last I checked the separation of church and state is in The Bill of Rights and Obama was democratically elected. You may not like those facts, but they are facts nonetheless."

"Separation" of church and state is NOT in the bill of rights. You better check it again.

Obama was elected with the help of taxpayer funded groups like ACORN and the SEIU and also with the help of the mainstream media. This should NEVER happen here in the USA. As for extremists, the left is full of them and some of them are appointed "Czars" under Obama.
It's not too late to wake up there, Erik. Do it for your kids!

The last I checked the separation of church and state is in The Bill of Rights and Obama was democratically elected. You may not like those facts, but they are facts nonetheless.

Apparently you don't see the connection between all religious extremists, rather they board planes with bombs to kill innocent people, or advocate bloodshed in the streets to further their religious agenda.

How do you feel about how theocracy plays out in Iran? Uganda?

I'm beginning to think that the world needs to come up with a nation where all religious extremists can relocate and battle out their differences about God amongst each other without hurting the rest of us. Would that make you happy?

Sir, I believe you have gotten yourself wrapped up in your own bubble. I would humbly suggest you expand your reading list a bit and step back from the edge. Unless you are too far invested in wallowing in this one view of society - and eschew the humility to see that you are not the only member of this great society - to see clearly what the reality is in America. You have gotten yourself into the historical class of society that refuses modernity, study, intellect and logic by opposing modernity and a shifting societal make up.

Separation of church and state is an issue in the US only because those who do not have a church or belong to a church other than yours are being discriminated against by laws which favor fundamental Christianity. Wouldn't you agree that religious freedom is not only good but guarantees all believers like you to practice according to their conscience? And if so, why is it you so fear the loss of primacy of your ideological but skewed view of your country?

You've worked yourself (thanks to a hysterical Pat Boone and others who perpetuate false and emotional but factless ideas of patriotism) into a tizzy that has very little to do with the actual state of America.

Blood in the streets? Because the president is black or recognizes that he must serve a diverse population? The fall of America because some work to end discrimination against minority groups? The end of our nation because we have now a majority of Americans who value engaging other cultures?

Your emotional rant against your country is dangerous in that it perpetuates exaggerated ideas of who is "right" and just but allows little room for logic and rational thought. Socialism is not the enemy; fear of adopting new policies that work for all Americans is. Fear of evolving policies that no longer work (like unregulated "free markets" that perpetuate poverty and lack of insurance) is a danger.

We are no longer the greatest nation in the world because we have failed to embrace ideas, we have failed to change as the world has changed, we have failed to teach science in our schools, and we have failed to embrace tolerance of other ideas - an act that will ensure the preservation of our own.
