Numbskulls Are Made, Not Born!
Nov 11th, 2010 by The Outsider
Growing up as a teenager in the Lehigh Valley, we had to learn how to read, write and do math as a matter of surviving in the economy and the job market. We were not given handouts and we didn’t protest because we had to work to survive. In the 60’s, Jack Kennedy gave a speech that made history because he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country!” That line helped to get him elected. Today, that line by a Democrat would get him thrown out of office and out of town. I can just imagine what the leftists in the media would say. He would be demonized by being called a racist and a man with no compassion for the poor. Also, President Jack Kennedy and his brother Robert attempted to fight organized crime. I think organized crime won that fight! As I look back, the two Kennedy’s had guts! Who is fighting organized crime now? Maybe the politicians decided to join rather than to fight. We don’t even hear about organized crime, as though it doesn’t exist. We have legalized gambling in almost all states now backed by the government as a means of raising tax revenue for the participating states. We never hear about the actual amount that the state is bringing in through gambling. We have also been told how gambling will help our schools. Does anyone with a brain or an ounce of honesty, believe that?
Now, about the schools! What changes have we seen in our government schools these past 50 years? Are students learning more? Is discipline still a tool used to keep students in line so they can learn and also keep the bad students from disrupting the good students? Are they taught to compete and to be the best they can be, or are they taught to standards that are designed to keep the students from feeling bad when they fail? Do the students develop a sense of pride and accomplishment that will instill self esteem when they study hard and get good grades or are they “taught” self esteem?
Yes, we have gone a long way since the 50’s, a long way backwards! It should be well known that the government schools and teachers unions have failed us and our students. We are paying a high price for that failure. The so called “third world” countries are ahead of us in math, science and even the arts. China will be taking us over in engineering and production soon if they already haven’t. One walk through any large store and looking at the labels, will tell us we are failing to lead in engineering and manufacturing.
How did this all happen? Simple! We put our faith in government and allowed them to run our schools. The liberals and progressives that are in control of our schools and universities have brainwashed our children. After several generations of being taught anti-American history, we have learned to dislike America and to accept the values of the European model of Socialism. Isn’t that what Obama and the Democrats are all about? And don’t forget, the mainstream media and the Hollywood left have a big hand in shaping the values of our young.
We are what we are taught! We are not born to fail, we are taught to fail! Only we, the people can get back to basics but we must accept responsibility for our actions. Don’t blame everyone else for our failures as Obama and the Democrats do with G.W. Bush! Blame ourselves and remember, votes count! If our country is failing, we have failed! Numbskulls are made not born! I know that is difficult to accept but we must to make change for the better.
Our young have fell for the promise of hope and change and voted for Obama and the Democrats by a large percentage. They called Obama a “rock star”! That notion by itself is a numbskull remark. Harsh but true!
There is a good column by Ann Coulter that sums it up.
