So will you vote for him?
Apr 25th, 2008 by Randy Toman
I received an E-Mail from the Lehigh County Republican Committee of Pennsylvania, it was an article entitled “The Elephant in the Room: Why conservatives should support McCain” written by Senator Santorum
Senator Santorum’s evaluation of why I should vote for Senator McCain was poor at best and not every convincing. Allow me to try and explain my reasoning for not accepting his argument as to why we should vote for Senator McCain and for the Senator to reach this conclusion and try to convince me to vote that way was bordering on deception.
2nd. Paragraph
“Now the question for conservatives is whether McCain fits the Reagan Axiom that someone you agree with on 80 percent of the issues is your friend, not your enemy.”
Senator Santorum said in the same paragraph that he opposed Senator McCain position on Global Warming. This issue alone is huge and will have major effects on the social order. If I were too put a numeral number on this issue, it would take up a large percentage of the 20 percent. The redirecting of efforts and correcting of this error will take huge amounts of taxes payer’s money. There are basic flaws in both of the Senators thinking, Senator Santorum for thinking that Global Warming is a small issue and that its ramifications are small, falling within the 20% of allowable error and still having Senator McCain acceptable. Senator McCain for his acceptance in the facts that there is something happening such as Global Warming. Senator McCain is not only in error for thinking that there is this type of warming and that it is happening to the degree it will harm the earth’s environment. But he has error in the fact that he thought government could fix it, if in fact there was something wrong, that misjudgment on Senator McCain in corrective action was in fact the bigger error not the possibility that there is Global Warming. That type of error in judgment can be put into what could be called a character flaw Senator McCain thinks big government could fix anything and that is a flaw over and above misjudgment.
Senator McCain should have taken the position that we will allow the scientific community take the lead and determine the problem if any and put Senator Gore in his place. Senator McCain could of said this simple sentence, which of course would not have been politically correct, I’m not convinced that Global Warming is occurring and we must not rush into something that is not proven to be a problem. But he didn’t say that.
The one issue I didn’t hear Senator Santorum mention was Senator McCain’s support of the Feingold McCain act. You can slice that one up however you want; it will certainly make up another large part of the 20% and just might take one over the brink of still being a friend. Another character flaw in his interpretation of what is within the legal boundaries of Constitutional law and that one if called a mistake is serious enough to push the good senator well over the 20% and into being an enemy.
Let me just mention a couple of other flaws that could push Senator McCain out of the friendly category and into enemy territory.
The Senators stand on the border issue and illegal immigrations. This is another flaw of major proportions and will take you well over the 20%. This error in judgment has the ability to show ones lack of judgment and understanding in a couple of areas. One is the understanding of governments’ job as a protector of its citizens. The second and I think more important is the fact that he lacks the ability to understand how this issue is changing the make-up of our very culture.
His ability to understand the economy in that he was against renewing and/or keeping in place President Bush’s tax cuts. And I understand that he has since changed his position, but that begs the question; did he change his mind because he now thinks it is truly a good idea or is it just politically expedient.
Finally this on what Senator McCain said today and I understand Senator Santorum could not have known about this so as to consider it in his 80% friendly rule to judgment. But I include it to make my case of character flaws. Mistakes are one thing but a consistent string of them make up ones character.
All I can do is disassociate myself from that kind of campaigning, and again reiterate: that’s not the party of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan, its not and if some of the people who are responsible for this ad are offended by that statement, fine with me.
John McCain, reacting to a North Carolina Republican Party ad critical of Barack Obama. April 24, 2008 Did anyone hear what RUSH had to say about this?
Deception is when you don’t believe something you have said is quite true and yet you put it out as being something that can justify your position, in convincing others.
Does Senator Santorum really believe HIS friend falls within in that 80% and if so, would he have said that back in the Senators days in the Senate?
I would have believe Senator Santorum sooner if he had told me Senator McCain is the lesser of the evils so vote for him. And that is even questionable it may be better for the Republican party and the conservatives to meet a O’bama or Clinton head on rather then be boiled ever so slowly with yet another RINO. Wake-up America
