I grew up in the 40’s and 50’s and attended public schools. WWII was still going on when I started Kindergarten in an orphanage, (mother died) and ended thereafter. What was found in the concentration camps throughout Europe astounded us all. Many Jews came here after the war to get away from the horrible conditions they were in. All Americans were having it pretty tough in those days and there were shortages of gas, rubber and even steel needed in the war effort. An Uncle on my step mothers side was shot down somewhere in Germany and never found. The men that survived the war wanted to make life better for their children than what they had.

In the public schools, we were taught about the war and the Holocaust. We were also taught about Hitler and Fascism. In the 50’s after Communism spread throughout Eastern Europe, we were also taught about what was happening in Hungary during the Hungarian revolt where the Soviet military shot people protesting in the streets against their take-over. I remember it well!

Fast forward to the 60’s. Jack Kennedy is campaigning for the presidency and speaks to the people. He says “ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”! He wins the election and is now our president. Not much later, Cuba’s Fidel Castro, a Communist, is receiving missiles from the Soviets. Kennedy give’s Castro an ultimatum, “get those missiles out of there. Castro does. It was called the Cuban Missile crisis and I also remember that well, I was in the Air-force. We had our aircraft loaded up, even in Germany where I was. Not long after, (1963 to be exact), someone ran into my barracks room and shouted, “Kennedy was shot, Kennedy was shot!”. It turns out that he was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, a Communist sympathizer. We were all shocked! I voted for Kennedy, a Democrat. A side note: Obama is surrounded by Communists and Communist sympathizers! Ironic, isn’t it? Johnson is now president and he wants to create what he calls, “the great society”, a Utopia!

Now forward to the late 60’s. Things change! The “Hippie” movement starts. These were the people that thought everything should be free, a “Utopia”, just like the Soviet Union and other Communist countries had, so they thought. A side note: Nancy Pelosi is still one of those Hippies that never matured. The public, (government) schools no longer teach about the perils of Communism, only of Fascism. Life is good, jobs are plenty and most people are living their dreams. Our forefathers have fulfilled their promise of making things easier for us. Maybe too easy. People got lazy and Japan sees an opening due to our slacking working class. Unions get bigger and push for higher and higher wages with benefits like health-care insurance and pensions. The corporate CEO’s tell us we better not ask for too much, the competition from abroad will take over. We don’t listen, we want more! We get more! The Democrats like it because they are getting mucho bucks from the unions. The union leaders tell the members that it is owed to them. Many workers fall through the cracks into unemployment due to lack of skills in a growing high tech industry. Many of these are black Americans, especially in the South where the Industrial revolution is slower in catching on. Many of them move to the North and into the cities only to find it jobless as well. Taxes are higher and space is at a premium. Many can’t afford the rent, let alone home ownership. The Democrats step in. We’ll make things better but you must vote for us. Many do and the welfare system takes off.

Now it is 2010 and so many people think that the great society is “great”, no work, free housing, food stamps, aid for dependant children, etc. Fathers abandon their children, mothers won’t marry since welfare pays better if they don’t. Crime sets in because of the lack of discipline. The numbers grow and the inner cities start falling apart due to lack of pride that comes with not working for what one has. It grows to immense levels and now we have several generations of “victim” classes that depend on the Democrat government for their survival. A black president gets elected and promises more entitlements to the poor. The old days of “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” is but a mere joke that most Democrat voters would laugh at.

We now have a large part of our society that have not learned about real history, only what the government schools (largely made up of liberal Democrat voting teachers and their union leaders) are wanting to teach instead. I call it by it’s proper name-brainwashing. The colleges and universities are following suit. They call it “progressive”! Going backwards is progressive?

With all this in mind, I can see why so many are wanting entitlements and voting for the party that offers the most, or are promising the most! I grew up working and going to school to make a better life for my family because that is the way I was taught. Now, we have too many people who want the freebies, not the freedom that our forefathers fought and died for. The libs don’t seem to have any respect or love for their forefathers or for their own children, just for what they want for themselves. “Things” to them, mean more than freedom!

To help in this attitude of the left is the lack of religious values, pushed by the many of the Democrats and organisations like the ACLU and ACORN. None of us are perfect but we must try to understand where we came from and why we believe the way we do and which is right and which is better. Another thing we should be thinking about is: where do our freedoms come from and who is more important, us or our children?
