Rep. Dent condemns the appearance of Iranian president at Columbia
U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) today took Columbia University to task for inviting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak on Middle East politics:
“The university is supposed to be a place that embraces tolerance. Yet Columbia entertains a man who suppresses human rights activists within his own country and has called for Israel to be wiped from the face of the earth. This makes absolutely no sense.
“Compounding the irony here is the fact that Columbia refuses to allow the U.S. military on its campus, claiming that our armed forces are ‘intolerant,’ while at the same time welcoming a hate-mongering extremist whose policies are the embodiment of intolerance.”

If Lee Bollinger thought that inviting Ahmadinejad to his university to spew his “garbage” would somehow soften and change the dictators heart, he was badly mistaken. He said he wanted to show how America invited free speech from all people, even those that we disagree with. If so, why didn’t he provide the same opportunity to the volunteer border guards and the U.S. military recruiter? Is there any doubt that Ahmadinedjad will use this as propaganda against us? It will hurt us in the long run and people in high places in our universities should know that. I’ll bet Bollinger is a Democrat! Any bets?
