Take From One And Give To Another

“Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday announced a plan to shed a major military command in Virginia as part of his effort to strip billions from the Pentagon budget, drawing heated objections from state lawmakers who call the center essential. Gates estimated that the Virginia command accounts for 2,800 military and civilian positions, as well as 3,000 contractors, at an annual cost of at least $240 million.” Story here!
Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va. and Rep. Glenn Nye, D-Va., don’t like this idea one bit!
In the meantime, House Democrats are rolling the dice this week by returning from a recess that had barely begun to pass a $26 billion teacher jobs bill — at a time when calls for fiscal restraint are dominating the campaign landscape.
“This bill … will help keep 160,000 teachers around the country in the classroom as we start school the next couple weeks rather than on the unemployment line,” Education Secretary Arne Duncan told Fox News on Monday.”
In other words, save $240 million by eliminating the jobs of 5600 military men and contractors, then extend jobs to 160,000 teachers and their unions at a cost of $6 billion! I knew those military men should have contributed to Obama’s presidential campaign fund like the teachers and their unions did! Obama knows what side his bread is buttered on, yessiree! What would Hillary say? “It’s all for the children”, of course!
Why is it that whenever the government runs short of money, they cut the military instead of cutting themselves and other government workers, along with their pet projects? Does it have anything to do with who votes for who? Of course it does! Just another case of buying votes with the taxpayers money!
