I recently read an article in the October issue of “Life Issues Institute Inc” magazine, concerning abortion amongst black Americans. These stats came from Mr Arnold M. Culbreath partnering with Dr Alveda King, niece of Dr Martin Luther King. These stats are staggering but true! Since 1973, 14,500,000 black babies have died from abortion. That’s 425,000 per year at 1,200 per day. Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinics are strategically located in black communities and make up 62.5% of all Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in the United States. Abortions among black woman make up 37% of all abortions even though black woman make up only 13% of the female population in the United States. Mr Culbreath is the director of Urban Outreach and is making a strong effort to educate the black communities about abortion and the effect abortion is having on the black culture. Mr Culbreath is also trying to influence leaders in the NAACP into looking into the abortion problem among blacks. Currently, the NAACP has no position on abortion. Mr Culbreath and several black pro-life leaders attended the 98th NAACP National Convention in Detroit, MI in July, 2007 and attempted to pass a pro-life resolution. Though the resolution was not passed, many people at that convention were informed about the resolution and copies of the resolution were placed in the hands of Juliun Bond, Chairman of the Board and Dennis Hayes, Interim President and CEO, who both said they would look into it. Pro-life material was given to over 600 convention attendees who seemed to be unaware of the problem of abortion in black America.
