Unions Help Auto Companies?
Dec 3rd, 2008 by The Outsider
Now that the American Auto companies are not only broke, but in the hole, the unions claim they want to help. Amazing how losing money can change one’s attitude about what their real purpose is. The real purpose of the UAW is to secure the interests of the workers, like keeping their jobs! They didn’t realize that the companies actually gave the workers their jobs. The unions didn’t employ the workers, however, to keep that job, the worker has to join the union! What wealth did the unions create? If the companies go under, what good will the unions do? Don’t the unions and their members depend on the companies for their jobs and income? So now the UAW wants to HELP the companies they have been adversarial to for so many years? It wouldn’t be that the unions finally realize who the real earners and wealth creators are, now would it?
In my humble opinion, the best way for the UAW to help would be to desolve itself, give all their assets back to the companies they helped to destroy and go out and get a real job! Don’t get me wrong here! The companies are complicit in their failures as well. They gave the unions almost everything they wanted and signed the contracts too, however, the jobs came from the companies, not the UAW! The unions have been more like “bottom feeders” than a real help. More like parasites than parachutes to the failing auto companies. Now that I think of it, the unions have been like our government. Taking money, spending that money to keep in power and creating debt, not wealth. Then who do the politicians blame for the financial crisis we are in? They blame the Wall Street people, the banks and “greedy” corporations. Did Wall Street spend our money or did the government? Who was it that “gave” our money away? Wall Street and the banks? Or was it the power greedy people in our government who create no wealth and now they want to bail out the auto companies. What they really mean, is that they want the unions to retain their power because that is what brings votes to the Democrat party. Without the unions, the Dems would never get elected. Much of their campaign contributions come from the unions. Kind of cozy, isn’t it! The unions take from the members, give some of it to the politicians and the politicians spend that money to keep in power and to make policies to strengthen the unions, like not allowing secret ballots when members vote. Now that the auto companies and their unions are failing, the politicians feel entitled to take from the taxpayers and give it back to the failing companies. That is just an excuse to help the unions. So who should be helped with our stolen tax money? The companies or the unions? I say no one! Welfare is welfare! Enough is enough! Note: Isn’t it ironic that the auto companies are going to the very government that helped put them in the crisis that they are in because of all the restrictions and regulations that the government forced on them? The government needs to get out of their way and let the managers run the companies the way they know how. The government doesn’t seem to know how to run anything these days. Article below:

International and National Unions were always the biggest of the “scabs” (notice the usage of a union term) Local and Internal Company unions, for the most part, outlived their usefulness after the Second World War. Small to Medium size Companies have no real need for one, if the ownership cares properly for it’s employees. In the latter 19th and early 20th Century they did serve a purpose.
Unions, Huge Corporations, and Big Governments are all parasitical opportunists upon the worker citizens.
